Ok, I’m way behind in getting some images uploaded…long story, will update this over the weekend, but here’s the last image I was working on yesterday.  I’ve been drawing, but had to modify to cope with lots of stuff going on.  This one has lots of meaning for me, but will revise this post with that later this week/weekend.  Here’s an image.  Direction in drawing has become very integrated into medical treatment now, and I’ll explain that, too.  I may yet tweak this one a little bit more, but this one was done in pen & ink, watercolor, and colored pencil.  The book is actually just a retail catalog that someone had discarded that was on fairly heavy paper and the size seemed suitable for my purposes (app 7.5” square).  On some pages, like this one, I have glued some cheap manilla-colored children’s drawing paper over the catalog pages to give it some thickness.  I use this book for random doodling like this.  Odd how I often do some of my favorite drawings in recycled books like this. I have a smaller one that I’ve been working in, that I’m going to have to rebind, as the painted pages have torn away from the stitching somewhat.

For the most part these drawings at least start and progress for quite a while as automatic drawing, and later compositions arise out of them as the image begins to take form.  If I had to plan this picture, I probably couldn’t have done anything that I would enjoy nearly so much or that would mean as much to me.  That process of not planning that seems to have been consistently successful in my drawing apparently still holds true, although I did set an intention to use a limited pallet, primarily blue(without regard to what the actual image might become).

Doctor’s appt today to circle back on how I’m doing.  I’m both looking forward to this and dreading it, all at the same time.  So much to review about options.  If they ask me what’s my number, I must NOT blow up at them!  Argh….pet peeve when you have a chronic illness!  Okay, find my quiet place…calm…..waited so long since the last review.  I was so patient, especially for me!  I’ve come a long way; I can do this! My other doc appts went well, and hopefully I can get this guy on board with making sense of how to better manage all these comorbid conditions and not fry my brain in the process!  He listened to me last time and earned my respect; I need to trust that it will be easier for him this time with more information.  I’m bringing comparison images for him, in case he’s forgotten how I looked last time.  But I’ve lost so much weight since then, and so much muscle!  <sigh>  I can tell that the steroids are starting to lose their effectiveness, though symptoms are still not as bad as without them, assuming I don’t use any of my joints.  How much longer till I can get this in remission?  Hope springs eternal (stubbornly so with me, thank goodness!)

BE BRAVE!!  YOU ARE BRAVE!!  IT WILL BE OK!!

Sheesh, my heart is racing!  Why do I get so anxious about these meetings?????  Nothing else has triggered anxiety for me in quite a while, now I’m having this completely unhelpful reaction.  Gotta jet, and take a little calming time before my appt.

Well, I’m bringing some doodling with me, and that always helps.  Working up some new pattern sheets for some of my abstract zen kinda stuff that I use for pain management and stress reduction.  Will post them as I finish them.  There are 12 pattern squares to a page, and developing new designs takes a little longer than putting down patterns that I’ve already worked with.  Still, it’s very calming and opens up flow.

Tangleocity Been just playing around with a zentangle that I did as a bedtime wind down kind of exercise.  If you don’t know what zentangles are, go Google it.  It’s basically a kind of doodling, that’s related to drawing mandalas (another word you can google), that gets your zen thing working, stimulates creativity, unplugs the stress parts of your brain.  But after I mindlessly did it, the next day, I found that it was fun to play with it, and there were all kinds of optical illusions in it, when I carved it up different ways and put it back together.  Even my husband started seeing things in the various alignments!  Here are a few examples, but I am also doing some new art pieces incorporating some of the patterns that emerged, which I’ll throw up later.  It loosened and relaxed me so much that I had a really productive day today, after several bad pain days in a row.  It was pretty cool!

Black and whites were pretty neat.  Without the color, you start flipping them around, and you will probably see all kinds of interesting images, too:
